It is the trend of the moment to know your own reference color palette: if you do not yet know which one is yours, follow our tips to discover it immediately, this is the magic of color harmony!
The benefits of knowing and wisely using your “friends colors”Thanks to the armocromia technique there are many. Color is a physical phenomenon, any color of any surface, combined with another, changes the perception of both and this is what also happens to your skin. If you combine them with colors that “repeat” yours subdued, so warm colors if the undertone is warm and cold colors if the undertone is cold, the skin reacts positively by becoming more homogeneous and luminous, the features are lifted and hair and eyes brighter. Maybe you didn’t know that there is also the iris test to find out your undertone!
On the contrary if you use colors opposite to yours subdued the effect could be negative: graying or yellowed face, discoloration such as dark circles and accentuated spots, dull eyes, hardened somatic features and a feeling of tiredness of the face. And this is how the color scheme turns out to be a valid ally.
Lucy Boynton in a “hot” version with a gold-colored dress: the cold tones of her complexion, eye and hair color are not as enhanced as with silver
As you may have guessed, everything starts fromidentification of one’s undertone, here’s how to understand if yours is hot or cold, but first let’s understand what it is!
What is the undertone?
It is the background color of the complexion, the one who dictates the colors that give you the most by temperature: hot or cold. The undertone is not visible to the naked eye, it should always be measured with thecolor analysis perhaps with an online armocromia test, so as not to run into evaluation errors, because often the overtone, that is, the skin as we see it on the surface, does not coincide with the undertone and everything becomes complicated. Let’s take a very common example: a woman with a cold undertone can have an overtone tending to yellow or be neutral / beige, in this case it becomes really difficult to establish the undertone with the naked eye because the overtone has a shade that is in fact opposite to the undertone. If you want to measure your undertone “do it yourself” at home here is how you can do it.
How to tell if I have warm or cold undertones
Position yourself in front of the mirror, completely remove make-up and in natural light, or in any case a good light that, even if artificial, is quite neutral, neither too yellow nor too neon / blue, so you can do your own test for the color scheme. Equip yourself with pieces of fabric or clothing of any kind, of these color pairs: salmon and baby light pink, raspberry red and coral red, orange and fuchsia. Couples should be tried together, placing the warm color on the chest under the face and with the cold color in the hands (or vice versa) moving the fabric up and down. By doing this movement quickly with the pairs of colors indicated you will see changes in the skin: if it is yellowed and more discolored with warm colors then you probably have a cold undertone; if it turns gray, dull and more discolored with cold colors then you probably have a warm undertone.
Model Emily Ratajkowski has warm undertones and overtones: orange enhances her amber and sunny beauty Fuchsia, which is considered a cold color in armocromia, does not enhance Emily Ratajkowski’s distinctly warm skin, eyes and hair tones
How do you know if the undertone of the foundation is right?
The foundation should be chosen based on the overtone and not to the undertone. Let’s take an example: if the undertone is cold but the overtone tends to yellow, wear a distinctly cold foundation with a pink tone it makes the face gray and creates a mask effect. The foundation is a sort of second skin, it must blend completely into the complexion and “disappear”. Try it on the jaw and neck, when, once spread, it is no longer visible, it means that it is the right one; if, on the other hand, you see a different shade, too dark or too light that still remains visible once spread, continue looking for a shade more suitable for you. Unless you have a distinctly porcelain or pink overtone, or a distinctly golden-yellow overtone and then choose pink (cool) or yellow (warm) foundations respectively, stay in the neutral-beige range to make no mistake.
How do I know which colors look good on me?
One time identified your undertone as explained in the previous paragraph you will know whether to orient yourself more towards warm colors or cold ones. Understanding which of these two macro-categories you belong to and using those colors in clothing and make-up is already very useful to enhance yourself. If you then want to deepen the degree of intensity of colors (light or dark) and of brilliance or opacity you have to observe your eye and hair colors. This is where seasonal color palettes come into play: spring, summer, autumn, winter. Here is a mini guide on using colors according to your characteristics once the undertone has been measured.
