Homewear and home wear: outfits and trends

Fashion has always reflected the times: listens to consumers by interpreting their needs and adapts to new and emerging needs, proposing trends and garments in line with people’s wishes. In this 2020 the pandemic caused by the new Coronavirus has forced us to work from home: the spaces have been reorganized as well as the purchasing needs.

Home clothing favors soft, soft and comfortable garments but at the same time sober and elegant in the case of calls or business meetings. There are many brands that have included various homewear pieces in their collections: from sports suits to pajamas revisited in more fashion versions, even the big brands in the fashion world have advanced their proposals.

In fact, we had already sighted the trend of home clothing to parade undisturbed on the catwalks of last season.

Homewear and home wear: between trends and comfort

Everything is and will be minimal. The first trend that dresses homewear garments is the minimalist one, which is back in the spotlight and it is rumored that it will remain in circulation even after Covid-19.

To cope with the pandemic that has overwhelmed us this year, many people have taken steps to reorganize the home environments and work remotely, in smart working: this has favored an increasing preference for garments made of soft and comfortable fabrics, where the new landmarks are longevity and quality, both in clothing and in the elements we surround ourselves with every day.

The 2020 homewear includes the new versions of sporty tracksuits, refined and elegant, alongside cotton dresses and skirts, jeans and trousers with relaxed silhouettes (as in the 70s). The soft and enveloping shades of the earth are the most loved and sought after, such as brown in all its shades, from the most intense to the most tenuous or blue, sage green and pink. All always declined in calm and never exaggerated nuances.

But consumers, especially this year, are more alert and informed than ever. One of the trends that exploded during Covid-19 was that of kindness economy, the kindness economy which has all the credentials to be considered a new route to pursue.

People forced to work from home and limit contacts lend (and will lend) one increasing attention to the way in which companies engage in the field of environmental responsibility. Transparency and authenticity are two keywords both in terms of environmental impact and in supporting social causes: it is of fundamental importance for consumers to know that the brand they have chosen is actively engaged in supporting social causes.

The essential homewear items

The pandemic has forced us to spend our days within the walls of the house like this brands and brands, after listening to the needs of their customers, have included homewear garments in their collections in soft cuts and fabrics, absolutely comfortable.

Compared to recent years, where lean and showy silhouettes have mastered the scene, this year relaxed and practical fits are preferred. Women’s sports suits have become a must have thanks to the many versions available today: the classic ones with hood and front zip are flanked by the more minimal versions.

Furthermore, the trend of home clothing is very much linked to the fashion trends of the 70s: the trousers are high-waisted and equipped with soft elastics, the bottom of the tracksuits or trousers in soft fabrics is flared and the cotton dresses are tight but not snug.

The chosen palette is the one inspired by the shades of the earth, in fact, in the collections we find a succession of brown, terracotta, chestnut, dusty pink and the inevitable beige, very delicate and perfect even for more formal occasions (even if black is still one of the favorite colors).

Do not forget the slippers which are divided between the very elegant velvet versions and those covered with sherling for the most chilly!

Those who worked from home even before the pandemic recommend, after having breakfast, to choose an outfit and take off your pajamas: many argue that wearing your favorite sweater or that color you like so much helps you to be more serene and productive. Always opt for soft and comfortable materials, and indulge yourself in the game of overlapping.

A sports suit can become elegant if, instead of the classic hooded sweatshirt, you wear a sweater in the same shade as the trousers or a heavy cardigan.

Asos, among the categories of its e-commerce, has recently included the item “home clothing”, where you will find many items to compose your smart working looks. Like the coordinated suit in the delicate oat tone signed Simply Be: the sweatshirt has a very soft fit, a round neckline and dropped shoulders, while the trousers have a high waist and are made with a ribbed pattern.

Sports suits, oversized or crop sweatshirts, leggings, luxury pajamas and dressing gowns in warm and soft fabrics are invading every collection, from those of the fast fashion chains to the most famous brands. The trend of home clothing has already been in the air for some seasons, so much so that the catwalks had confirmed it in last year’s fashion shows.

In the Chloé collection we had admired sober and everyday-inspired outfits, like the look with a cardigan tucked into the high-waisted skirt paired with a collared shirt.

At Jil Sander, however, we had seen a long and soft wool dress with ribbed detail and a mini cape with high collar resting on the shoulders.

However, accessories should not be forgotten, which always play a decisive role, even in terms of homewear: Louis Vuitton has launched two variants of slippers to wear at home, the Slip-on Dreamy and the Slipper LV Suite, the most sought after model and available in three different colors.
